Baby it’s Cold Outside…and it is time to shake and switch things up for the winter season. Just as we have to switch up our wardrobe slightly to protect our bodies from the blistering cold, we MUST do the same thing with our hair routine.
If your hair could talk, I am pretty sure it would spew all types of profane words at you no different than if you stepped outside butt naked in the winter without a coat. Brrrrrr right. So what should you do you ask?
Pick a few of my personal favorites. Here are my tips to ensure that you too can stop traffic and become that walking, bouncing, hair ad that you have rolled your eyes at in envy in the past!
- Take baby steps to improve your nutrition for the winter months. Increase your water and protein intake and if you are lazy and simply not going to do that, add a Hair Vitamin to your morning routine that I pair nicely with my daily hot cup of coffee.
- Deep Conditioner. We all need a deep conditioner that is going to help hydrate and lock in moisture. My favorite deep conditioning mask is sulfate and paraben free Argan Mask for Dry and Damaged Hair.
- Winter Styling. This is your opportunity to keep it simple and still be super stylish. A messy braid, a ponytail or an UP-do like a top knot are some of my favs, and of course, there’s always a hat like a cute beanie, anything that keeps your hair covered from the rain and snow. If you are thinking that you do not want “hat hair,” then a little secret is to first wrap your hair in a silk scarf.
LESS. Less Washing. Less Heat. Less Brushing. Cut these things at least in half for your new winter routine. And when you apply heat, make sure you use a good heat styling product before blow drying or flat ironing. My favorite heat styling remedy is mixing the Hair on Fleeek with Amethyst Oil.
Every 6-8 weeks make sure you get those ends trimmed to alleviate nasty split ends.
People, this is NOT your bi-monthly, winter pedicure that you can skip out on for a few months because only whomever you are trying to play footsie with under the covers will care, we cannot do that with our luscious locks!
So let’s get to switching and shaking it up and don’t forget to tag me in your favorite winter do.
